Speed Scrapper
I can't believe I just made a post without pics of my kids! Well, Faith Ann's nose, thankfully, looks the same as yesterday. The kids had a fun day playing outside and inside. Our bike was stolen once again, but somehow found by a man in our church who drives a motorcycle taxi (the 10 year old that stole it was headed to the next village to sell it). It is amazing how that bike makes it's way back to our house each time. All in all it was a great day! I hope you all have a blessed Sunday tomorrow!

Fun day with Friends!
They ended up leaving close to 10 pm. We try to get together on a weekly basis but sometimes b/c of sickness and busy schedules it doesn't work. We definitely enjoyed our day today. The picture is of Faith Ann (in all her colorfulness) and Trinity, Yeiters youngest. They aren't the best of friends just yet...but they soon will be. They are still at the age where they are fighting over each others toys. I don't think it will be too much longer til they are paired up like the other 6 kids are!

God "nose" what we need!
When all was said and done, she was fine, there is no permanent damage to the nasal septum, and the break will heal on its own. On top of that amazing blessing...the doctor put the entire bill (which isn't a fraction of what it would be in America...but still over 100 dollars) on his account. Wow! We are still in awe of the events of the day. We are broke right now to put it plainly and God is right by our side taking care of every step of the way. Ben told the doctor that normally he would argue with him about the money, but at this moment in our lives...we don't have any! Ben has $60 bucks in his pocket to last us til the end of the month! Praise God for how he takes care of His children.
Poor thing did not like the IV...she looks so cute in her hospital gown though.
While waiting the few hours for the anesthesia, she managed to sneak in a nap.
Here she's woken up from her nap and about to be put back to sleep. :)
She is now home safe and sound and fast asleep in her bed. She had no problems with the anesthesia. She was still a little loopy when she got home. We carried her everywhere since her legs weren't very trustworthy. Other than that, she has an appetite and everything is normal. Other than that IV, the events of the day didn't really phase her. Again, we thank God for the blessings of this day!

The 100 club
I also have to mention that Ben shared with me that our church in Bambili had a special guest visitor today...yep...Elvis Presley. Isn't that amazing? He really is still alive! (but he has a serious tan! LOL )

Down and Out
I knew it wasn't good. While Drew is a good kid, one thing he is, is full of energy. He is constantly going until he crashes at night. Naps are long gone for him, so to see him asleep in the chair at 4 o'clock, I knew something was wrong. Well, the thermometer confirmed it...101.4
Drew almost died at birth, and I guess I always figured he'd be our sickly child. It is quite the opposite though. He is so hearty and rarely gets whatever is floating around the house. I'm so thankful for that. Unfortunately whatever bug is floating around right now just bit him.
There are a couple things to point out about this picture...first, I love the fact that spiderman is his pillow. My Mom got that out of one of those crane machines at her work. Spidey has been by his side for a few years now. And the second thing to note are the bottoms of his feet. Can you see the dirt??? That is what I deal with all the time here. I will tell you, that when we first moved here, it was VERY hard for me to get used to my kids being dirty all the time. You should see the bath water Sunday after church! I don't bother bathing my kids before church, b/c I know what they will look like afterwards! The amount of dirt is unreal. But, after living here for over 5 years, I can honestly say that I'm used to it. It just isn't a big deal anymore. A little dirt never hurt! I know that now! :)
Well, hopefully Drew will be on the mend tomorrow and this bug will stop at him. I hope you all have a blessed Sunday tomorrow!

I let that sit...while heating up my tortilla press. For several years I rolled my tortillas by hand, but my friend, Susan, did the research and found a tortilla maker that she absolutely loved. I tried it out one time and decided I had to get one for myself. It makes the tortilla making process SO much faster!
After my beans were done cooking, I ran them through a grinder so they'd get mashed up well. Then, I put them in a cast iron skillet, added some of the juice from cooking, some cilantro flavored bouillion cubes, some cream cheese, salt and let it cook for a while on low. While that was cooking I started working on my tortillas. Here is my beautiful press:
I must say that dinner was a success. Slap some of those beans and some shredded cheddar onto that tortilla and it is MmmmMmmm good!

A New Chef in the House
Anyone who knows my husband, knows he is no cook. His claim to fame is that he even set the smoke alarm off when making PB&J sandwhiches for the kids! (don't ask...) Anyway, he wanted banana bread for breakfast, and he didn't even ask me to make it...I was so happy! He got out the recipe, and went to work himself, following it to the letter. I was so proud of him when I finally took this amazing work of art out of the oven...
I'm so glad he is expanding his horizons in the arena of cooking...now he can't claim ignorance when I need some help in the kitchen! He finally understands the meaning of "tsp."

Sinclair Court of Appeals
Tonight she asked me to open a banana for her. I was in the middle of making cookies and my hands were a mess, so I told her to take it to her daddy. She walked into the office and said, "Daddy, may I make an appeal please?" haha!! Wow, we had a good, long laugh after that!

Being Goofy!
Playing with the neighbor kids has also helped them to begin developing their language skills in Pidgin (the local trade language). Emma especially has started to speak pidgin more and more, and each time I hear her I giggle. I love it!

Sermon Notes
Jude usually leads the singing and then Matt Yeiter preaches the midweek service. After the message we take "prayer topics" and then pray as a church family. I usually take the kids out to pray, but we have construction going on and our Sunday School room is a bit dusty right now, so for tonight we stayed put. After church I had the wonderful privilege of sharing the gospel with Ophelia, who bowed her head and trusted in Christ as her Saviour. PTL!!

Raw and Uncensored!
Actually, this is censored. We could have taken the camera directly to the meat market and shown you the dirty wooden table, crawling with flies and cow blood (and other sundry cow parts). Instead, we take you to our kitchen, after Ben has carefully trimmed off all of the fat, bone, and gristle. He has even run it through our meat grinder once and is beginning the second run through in this picture.
I appreciate Ben so much for taking care of this very time consuming project about once a month. We usually buy about 8 kilos of cow leg (over 17 lbs.) and after all the trimming and grinding, end up with about 9 lbs. of ground beef. It takes about 3 hours time to get the job done and then we weigh it out and put it in the freezer. After eating this fresh beef in Cameroon, I had a hard time getting the packaged meat at Wal-Mart. It was so gross to me. While it is a lot of work to trim and grind (and clean up! That is my job)...it sure tastes a lot better!

A little friend
We also had a visitor. We have had a lizard making it's presence in our parlour for the past couple of days. The kids have tried to catch it, but weren't very successful...until tonight!
Here is a close up
After getting brave enough to actually try and handle the thing, Drew came running into the office with the lizard's twitching tail in his hands. Ewwww!
These guys are pretty common in our homes, and I welcome them as they eat all the other bugs in my house that I don't want to see hanging around. They usually run when they are spotted, although I did have one fall on my head when I opened a kitchen cabinet door once. I didn't appreciate that!
Our family devotion time was especially fun. We all went around choosing songs to sing and Emma was announcing that she wants to be an opera singer when she grows up. We had her sing her song (her choice was Jesus loves me) opera style. I even got it on video, and if I can ever figure out how to post it, I will. It is a little shaky as I was laughing so hard.

Happy Sunday!
The funniest part of the picture is Faith. I didn't notice her look when I took it, but Ben and I had a laugh over it tonight once I got it up on the computer screen. She is a nut. She sat there singing with that hymn book open in her lap, as if she really knew the words to the song. Too cute!
What a face!
We had a great day of services with three people trusting Christ as Saviour. Thank God! We spent the evening at Yeiters house and had a great time of fellowship there too! I trust you all had a blessed Sunday as well!
Before I sign off, you might notice that my blog looks odd. I'm desperately trying to get the background up and looking neat and tidy, but am having a little bit of trouble. This html code is too confusing...greek to me! I'll continue working on it, and if anyone reading this happens to have an answer for me, I'd be grateful!!

Soldiers at Sunset
Not only did I successfully complete my first week of Project 365, I also successfully scrapped it. Ben's response to that was, "So you are going to have 52 scrapbook pages at the end of the year...and you are going to print them??" lol! Uhhh, Yeah!(click the image to enlarge)
I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday in the Lord's house tomorrow!! I'll be back with another picture!

Day 8: Royal treatment & Surprises
I gave the girls a bath and got them ready for bed and came into the kitchen to find this wonderful surprise...actually two wonderful surprises:
First and most important surprise: that Ben was doing my dishes. Second surprise: our water had come in. Oh the blessings!! I actually got to take a shower tonight. Somehow I feel so much cleaner after taking a regular shower as opposed to dumping cups of water over my head. And thank you to my honey for cleaning my kitchen!!
I look forward to sharing another picture tomorrow!

One of our African Americans
This is my crazy, Kate, setting the breakfast table African style (notice the tupperware - I'm addicted to that stuff!). Everyone who has seen pictures of Africa, has seen the people carrying things on their heads. It amazes me sometimes how much weight those skulls can handle. They are so adept at it too. Of course they have been doing it since they were born.
Anyway, Ben gave Kate the bowls to set on the table and as he turned around he saw her walking into the parlour with them on her head. He whipped out his camera as fast as he could (knowing that the wife needed something to post on her blog for that night) and got a picture of her walking away with them on her head. He then had her pose for the above shot. So funny...I'm sure we will find our kids doing things like this more and more. The Cameroonians tell us that white people can't carry stuff on their heads b/c our hair is too slippery. Well...Kate sure showed them!
On a side note...we found out why we don't have water still. The daughter of some "big man" (that is how they say important man here) was getting married today, so they asked that all the water be directed to their house. I certainly can't blame a bride for wanting something as simple as water on her wedding day, now can I?

Day 5
Here is my picture for the day. I actually wasn't quite sure what to post...so many great pics to choose from. But, in the end I chose my silly pic of Faith. She helped me take down the Christmas tree today...I know, I know, some of you are thinking, "You are just now taking down your tree?!?" Well, it has been a bit busy around here. (not a good excuse really - to be perfectly honest I was just plain lazy!) Anyway, enough confession. I started taking down the tree and Faith wanted to help, so we had a fun photo shoot out of it. I told her to give me a frowny face...show everyone how sad she was that Christmas was over and our tree was coming down. We shared a lot of giggles over that half hour that we worked on that tree. Every time she'd attempt a frowny face it came out all wrong and then she'd laugh and I'd laugh. We really had a good time of it! This pic was the best frown she could come up with. I'll have to create a scrapbook page to document the rest of the pictures. They were too funny.
I was also happy to find that my Project 365 inspired my brother, Jay, and he has also started a blog documenting his own version of P365 (or P361 since he started a bit late.) Be sure to check it out here. He is an amazing photographer so you will definitely enjoy following his year in pictures!

Day 3 & 4
This is my Sunday school class taking the church bus home (he-he!) By the way, this is not a posed picture...they actually drove home like this!
Here are a couple pics from today, Jan. 4th - I couldn't choose just one.
(He looks so serious!)
Drew had his bi-monthly eye checkup. Every other month on a Monday, Drew leaves at 7 a.m. with his Daddy and accompanies Ben while he teaches two moral instruction classes. Then they head to the eye clinic. For a fee of 6,000 cfa (12 dollars) they will expedite you to the front of the line. Without that fee they would be there until dark! So, today they got right in and we thank and praise God that Drew's pressure remains normal and that he was able to read another line on the eye chart that he'd never read before!!
I'll be back tomorrow with another pic. It is kind of fun to decide on what pictures to take and what to highlight from each day. It really makes me conscious of each moment and definitely thankful for the blessings of our every day routine.

Project 365
I first heard about project 365 last year in the digi-scrapping community and thought it looked very interesting. Of course, by the time I'd heard about it, it was too late to start for that year, but it has been in the back of my mind ever since. So...I made the decision to take the 365 challenge in 2010. What is project 365? Well, my interpretation is to take one picture a day (or more if you want) and document day-to-day life. I think what I'll take away from it, is to appreciate the mundane things in life. We so often take the little things for granted, and my hope is that I'll come to see even the small things as blessings from God. Things that I normally would overlook. So, I hope you will join me on my 365 journey...and maybe even start your own!
Jan. 1...Pizza night! Need I say more?? What an awesome way to celebrate the New year! That loaded pizza was the bomb too! Sausage, pepperoni, black olives, green olives, green peppers, onions, tomatoes. Mmmmmm Good! All from scratch!
Jan. 2 was definitely an adventure filled day. The kids went out directly after breakfast to play with the neighbor kids. Around 2 p.m. the girls came screaming and crying that our house was going to burn down!! The bush fire surrounding our house was scary as you can see from the picture, but the neighbors rushed over immediately to help control it. They actually controlled it a little too well...they put it out! Basically that means that we have to endure another fire since all of our grass didn't burn. These fires keep the mice and snakes at bay, but they are frightening when they take place. We will probably pay some boys to clear away some more grass so that there is less to burn the next time a fire is lit.
Well...I'll add Jan. 3rd and 4th pics tomorrow to catch up!
